Bergen Rocks International Sculpture Symposium
July 15 – August 15th, 2009
Witness the birth of monumental sculpture. Join internationally renowned sculptor artists from Kenya, India, Cuba, Viet Nam and Ireland who are working to transform 100,000 lbs of sandstone and Marble into monumental sculptures over the 30 days of the Symposium. A world-class on-site gallery exhibits local and international fine art (some pieces for sale), and the works of Alberta and First Nation artisans.
Open to visitors: Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri – 9 am to 5 pm (closed Tues)
Admission: $2 per person. Funds will be used to support the Symposium and a local art charity. Additional donations to support the event are welcome.
Directions: Turn south on hwy 720 at Sundre (across from the Tourism Information Center) and travel 6.4 km to the Pioneer Lodge Road. Turn west on the Pioneer Lodge Road. Continue 1 km to RR 5.4 and turn south (gravel road). Enter the first acreage (south / right) and follow the signs to public parking.

Beef & Barley Days, Carstairs

Oldsmobile Rocket Roundup in Olds, AB

Join Oldsmobile enthusiasts for the 16th annual Oldsmobile car show in the Town of Olds, AB. Open to all Oldsmobiles. Free hot dogs and soft drinks, door prizes, Mayor's Choice, RCMP Pursuit Award, Long Distance, People's Choice and Oldest Oldsmobile at Olds Award, Mini Oldsmobile artwork with easel to first 50 registered (must show up), club tee shirts, golf shirts, pins etc. Music and 50/50 engine blow up contest - Banquet afterwards.

Art in the Park

Join the Uptowne Olds group in giving a real, warm Alberta welcome to our international guest artists, here for the Bergen Rocks Sculpture Symposium. Artists from Kenya, India, Cuba, Viet Nam and Ireland will be brought to the park in horse and buggy for a welcoming ceremony and the opportunity to meet and talk with the people of Alberta.
Visiting and local artists will display a selection of their art in the park, during the reception. Refreshments tent.

Lily Festival 2009, Eagle Creek Flowers (west of Bowden)

The 2009 Lily Festival is a day to get away and have fun on the farm. U-pick specials for Lily Bulbs and Lilies, sunflowers, snap dragons, dahlias and a number of other perennials. Head for the wagon and enjoy a wagon ride and guided tour of the flower fields and mazes.
Adjacent Corn and Sunflower maze will be open with a special “find the station” challenge and the opportunity to win discounts on lilies.

A Midsummer’s Yahoo! At the Olds Fair & Rodeo
August 7th – 9th, 2009
Put on your cowboy duds and join Olds for their CPRA Budweiser Rodeo and fair, 50 minutes north of Calgary. Events include saddle bronc, bareback, tie-down roping, ladies barrel racing, steer wrestling, team roping, and the ever-popular, bull riding. A special addition included Team Penning. Fans are guaranteed to have a great time. Rodeo Slack is on Thursday at 1 pm.
This event also features a Grandstand Show, Chariot & Chuckwagon races, Kids Mutton Busting, a Farmers Market, Horticulture, Arts, Crafts and Livestock shows, Extreme Freestyle Motocross Jumping, Kids Midway and Petting Zoo, Parade, Pancake Breakfast and more.

Mountain View Music Fest

A weekend long, town wide music festival featuring dozens of artists, including Cindy Church, Ian Thomas, Ian Tyson, Patricia Conroy and the Polyjesters. Join music lovers from across Western Canada to relax, enjoy and celebrate music.
The Music Fest is held in the park and a variety of venues in town and features an artisans market, art gallery, concessions, beer garden, camping and more. Family friendly.

Didsbury Fair & Rodeo, Didsbury, AB

Beginning with a pancake breakfast on Friday morning, the Didsbury FCA rodeo rocks the town for a special weekend of rodeo events, cowboy hats, cabaret, parade, beer gardens and the “Thunder on the Prairies” fireworks.
