Carstairs Municipal Campgrounds

Perched at the gateway to Central Alberta’s parklands, the Carstairs Municipal Campgrounds offer a quiet getaway with the full-service amenities of a small town. Located on Hwy 2A. Walking distance to the town center, parks and the Carstairs Golf & Country Club. This campground features horse shoe pits, playground, fire-pits and free firewood. An on-site model grain elevator houses a tourist information center (seasonal) and grain exhibit. Tent & RV camping (28 power hook-ups), showers, toilets (wheelchair accessible), sewage dump. No reservations – first come, first serve only.

GHOST AREA CAMPGROUNDS

Explore the beautiful backcountry wilderness of the Ghost Forestry Reserve. These 4 campgrounds are set in provincial recreation areas of the secluded, forested foothills along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. The Ghost area is criss-crossed by dozens of creeks, abundant in low montane vegetation and wildlife. Hiking and ATV trails are marked out. Other activities include water sports, biking, fishing, bird watching and photography.

The Ghost Forestry Reserve is serviced by a north south highway #40, accessible via 1A (west of Cochrane), 579 (west of Water Valley) and 734 (NW of Sundre).

Advisory: Portions of road are gravel. Abundant wildlife in region. Please adhere to posted road signs.

Burnt Timber Campgrounds

By Burnt Timber Creek. Walk-in tenting area, RV sites (no electric); pump water, outhouses and free firewood. Activities include, hiking trails, mountain biking, tubing and water Sports. Extensive area wildlife.

Fallen Timber Campgrounds

North Ghost Campgrounds

By Waiparous Creek, this extensive campsite features a playground with nearby biking, hiking and fishing. Individual tenting & RV sites (no electric), a group camp (60 unit capacity) with 3 fire pits and an open field for recreation and games. Pump-water, outhouses and free firewood. 169 sites.

Waiparous Creek

By Waiparous Creek. Access from campgrounds to ATV trails. This campground features 3 group-camps around an enclosed shelter with a large fireplace (15 unit capacity). Individual tenting and RV sites, pump-water, outhouses and free firewood. 53 sites.

Elkton Valley

Set in the rolling foothills north of Cremona and Water Valley, Elkton Valley is a quiet, very well kept campground and recreation area, open year-round. A large hall with hostel accommodation is available for groups and events. Baseball diamond, day-use area, fishing, horseshoe pits and playgrounds. Area attractions include golfing, country shopping, rural attractions and unique events.

Campgrounds feature year-round RV (power) and tenting, wheelchair accessible, picnic shelter, sani-station, showers, flush toilets, water taps, on-site concession, fire-pits, firewood & pull-thru sites. Pets at manager’s discretion (charge). 50 units.

Mountain Aire Lodge Campgrounds

RV and tent camping among 20 acres of treed terrain set in the breathtaking Rocky Mountain Big Horn Back-Country, along the Red Deer River. RV sites include power & water. A horse corral offers convenience for the equestrian. This is an ideal base for ATV enthusiasts, as the only campground in the area where it is permitted to on and off load motorized vehicles.

Adjacent facilities include: full service restaurant and store, firewood, heated showers and flush toilet. Mountain Aire also operates 8 nearby provincial campgrounds, which include day, group and unit usage and a 12 room hotel. Please see website link below for all details.

OR Hedges Campgrounds, Olds

This pleasant, municipal campground borders the Historic Uptowne Olds district and is within walking distance to all amenities in the town of Olds including the Olds Ag Society, Olds College and Centennial Park. Daily and monthly rates. Wheel-chair access, playground, day-use area, flush toilets, showers, picnic area, sani-station, horseshoe pits, 20 & 30 Amp power available.

Rosebud Campgrounds, Didsbury

Nestled in the Rosebud Valley, on hwy 582, this municipally run campground is quiet and within walking distance to all amenities in the town of Didsbury and features a gazebo. Campsites are available for tenting and RV with 15A and 30A power, tap water, washrooms, showers, trailer dumping station, public phone, horseshoe pits and playground. There is an on-site resident manager and picnic / day use facilities. Group rates available.

Westward Ho Campgrounds

This beautifully forested campground is in a valley south of Sundre, on the banks of the Little Red Deer River. Grass & pebble beach. Family friendly and pets allowed (leashed). Most sites are enclosed by trees (some open areas), on-site concession, nearby general store & gas station, playgrounds, ball diamonds, horse-shoe pits. Tenting and RV sites (no power), sewage disposal, free showers, flush toilets (wheelchair accessible), camp kitchen (power), tables, fire-pits, security, gated entrance and hall available for events, weddings, etc.

This area is rich in golf courses, rural attractions & activities, country shopping and dining.

Greenwood Campgrounds, Sundre

The Sundre Municipal-run Greenwood Campground is on the banks of the Red Deer River, well-treed and separated from the town by a grassed berm, and within easy walking distance of all shops and services.

31-sites available, all with picnic tables and fire pits: 1 full-service site, 18 powered sites, and 12 un-serviced sites. There is a washhouse with toilets and hot showers, tap water available throughout, a sani-station, playground, cookhouse with stove, and a day-use area. Firewood at $5 / wheelbarrow.
